On 1 June, 2013, the UNESCO workshop “Scoping Global Anticipatory Capacities” was organized by Riel Miller, Head of the Foresight Program at UNESCO. Dr. Nadezhda Gaponenko took part in the workshop among high level experts from 26 countries that were discussing foresight future. The workshop aimed at stimulation of the debates around the world and focused on the rethinking of foresight programmes’ role in new economy, on the paths of transformation of methodology and practice of implementation of foresight exercises at the global, national and regional level.

 

On 3 June, 2013, Dr.Nadezhda Gaponenko moderated the panel “Nanotechnology and the next economies” at the Baku Futures Forum “Next Big Things for the Future of Azerbaijan: Implications for Action Today (Post-oil Economy)”. The main task of the panel was to develop an action plan for the diversification of the Azerbaijan economy. Dr. Eric Drexler was the key speaker; he presented a window of opportunities opened by nanotechnology for the restructuring of the Azerbaijan economy. Eldar Shahbazov (he is Head of Department of SOCAR State Oil Company, successfully developing and applying nanotechnology in oil production) talk about the company’s experience in this field.

 

At the annual meeting of the Millennium Project, held on 2–5 June, 2013, Dr. Nadezhda Gaponenko made a presentation about theoretical foundations of sectoral innovation systems and sectoral foresight in the knowledge-based economy. Dr. Nadezhda Gaponenko is a permanent member of the Millennium Project since 1994 and represents the Millennium Project in Russia as director of the Russian Node since 1996. For almost 20 years, the Millennium Project connects futurists around the world to improve global foresight. It is now an independent non-profit global participatory futures research think tank of futurists, scholars, business planners, and policy makers who work for international organizations, governments, corporations, NGOs, and universities. By now, the Millennium Project has 46 Nodes around the world.
